                   Considering his meritorious service of over three decades in Pak Army, Brig. (R) Amir Hamza was appointed as the first Director General, Emergency Services Academy, (Rescue 1122) on 12th January, 2016. His rich experience in Pak Army, (which he joined in January 1984 as a Commissioned Officer & got retired in December, 2015) made him an ideal choice for the job in hand. During this span of 32 years, Brig. Amir Hamza had the opportunity to visit 17 countries including USA, UK, Indonesia, Turkey, Australia, and others to enrich his knowledge and hand on job experience.

                   Brig. Amir Hamza successfully completed National Security & War Course - the highest course meant for the selected senior officers of Armed Forces for grooming them to up challenging tasks at top level. He is graduate of Army’s premier training institution Command & Staff College, Quetta besides having foreign trainings from USA, UK, Turkey, and Indonesia to his credit. He is qualified in Bahasa Malayo - the language spoken in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He participated in International Conferences on Safe and Secure Pakistan, followed by a training program for executives on Management of Stakeholders & Projects in LUMS. He, also, attended a professional training course on Public Financial Management System in Military Accounts Training Institute, Rawalpindi.

                   Earlier he had obtained various degrees from renowned universities of the country i.e MSc in Disaster Management and MSc in War Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad and Masters in History & Pak Studies from Islamia University, Bahawalpur. Brig. Amir Hamza also attended & acted as a Resource Person in multiple National & International workshops on Safety & Security and Disaster Management while being part of United Nations Stabilization Mission in East Timor. During the era of disastrous tsunami in Indian Ocean in December 2004, he gained International experience in Crisis Management/ Emergency Situations, post crisis initiatives, Humanitarian Activities and Disaster Relief Management.

                   While being part of Pak Army, he worked in jigsaw puzzle of security in KP/ FATA, closely interacting with International Stabilization Force in Afghanistan, tackling security, emergency situations, International & National assistance for IDPs. Brig. Amir Hamza extensively worked on rehabilitation/ reconstruction in earthquake hit rendering inland services, he had an extensive experience of pre/during/post conflict like situation encompassing exodus of IDPs, laying /lifting of mines and resettlement of IDPs. During this period, he also remained intimately involved in Security Risk Assessment, Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Activities in collaboration with numerous NGOs /INGOs.

                   Likewise, during July 2008 to July 2010, Brig. Amir Hamza at Lahore Garrison Headquarters handled multiple security/ anti-terrorism incidents in Lahore/ Punjab while directly interacting with civil counterparts at provincial level, and managed training/ capacity building of Army/ Police Forces. Similarly, he led from the front during super floods in 2010 while serving in Nowshera Garrison.

                   During his last assignment at GHQ, Brig. Amir Hamza was recognized as a professional disaster manager. By now, he had crystal clear perception about the Disaster Management Profile of Pakistan through participation in numerous National/ International workshops and programs and he contributed in developing recipe for impending calamities and disasters, both natural and human induced, where ever his professional input was sought.
